How many residents and lots will there be at Pegasus?

Pegasus will be home to up to 7,000 residents and will have 1,246 residential house sites. There will be up to 107 retail and service outlets plus additional commercial office space. The town is expected to provide job opportunities for 1,400 people.

How long will the town be under construction?

Major earthworks and site contouring began in mid 2006, and the first residents moved in to the town in September 2008. Many of the town's key features are being established in the early stages of the development to ensure Pegasus grows as a fully functioning community. Pegasus is expected to be completed by 2015.

Who will be responsible for running the town?

Pegasus will be within the domain of the Waimakariri District Council and will be run in the same way as other towns with regard to services like rubbish collection, street and road maintenance etc. A Community Board may also be set up to help run the town in conjunction with Council policies.

Will there be additional costs other than rates?

There will not be any monthly or yearly service fees or body corporate charges on sections at Pegasus. These sections are intended to be no different than sections in any other town.

However, there will be user charges for using facilities like the hot pools or the aquatic centre as you would normally expect any Council or Municipal charge that you would pay in these sorts of facilities elsewhere.

What sort of sewage system is there?

This is a standard Council town reticulated system.

Is there gas in Pegasus?

How will the developer minimise the impact of traffic flow to and from Pegasus?

The developer has identified access to State Highway 1 as one of the keys to minimising any possible impact of traffic flow to and from the town. There will ultimately be a roundabout constructed at the main entrance to Pegasus off State Highway 1. It should also be noted that Pegasus has been designed to 'live where you play', and is essentially a self-contained community with commercial, social, recreation and economic opportunities within, ensuring less reliance on Christchurch and less need to commute outside of Pegasus.

What sort of storm water system is there?

Pegasus has a viable storm water system developed by a team of leading experts to the required Council standards for this type of development.

Do property owners have to take any special precautions regarding the storm water system?

It is very important for the functioning of the storm water system that the swales are not damaged. No parking is therefore permitted on the swales in the streets.

Where does the Pegasus water supply come from?

Pegasus draws its water from its own 140m deep supply wells and it also has a second backup well. Pegasus will not affect the Woodend water supply in any way and will not draw water from the existing Woodend supply. The water is treated and complies with Council requirements.
